This thickness prevents the "blooming" effect where the heat from your coffee mug or tea cup gets through to the surface of your table. This is annoyingly noticeable with varnished surfaces because the heat from the mug leaves a white blemish. The corkbacked base of the coaster consists of a layer of soft cork, which avoids any scratches or scuffing getting on your furniture.

Designed for domestic use, these drinks coasters with wooden centres can manage temperatures up to around 100ºC which at the boiling point of water is more than enough for your mug of coffee.

Do not immerse in water and do not put the Plymouth Pottery table mats and coasters in the microwave or dishwasher.
