The glazed surface of the top layer is hard and has been heat treated to protect the Harlequin art print. The solid and sturdy feel is provided by the pulped wood centre found in each Plymouth Pottery drinks coaster which is a generous 0.5cm thick. In addition to looking attractive, the aim of the coaster is to prevent rings or marks from forming where wine glasses and coffee cups are placed on the surface of your precious furniture.

The 5mm thickness prevents heat from your tea mug getting through to the surface of your desk or table. This is a particular issue with varnished wooden surfaces when the heat from the mug or cup ends up leaving a white blemish on the wood; this is then very difficult to remove. Preventing any scratches or scuffs is the soft corkbacked underside of each coaster.
